For just an overnight stay, it works. The hotel has a nostalgic feel and gets some things right, though it didn't quite hit the mark for me. I was grateful there was a sauna, especially as someone who likes saunas, but it was too mild to warm me up. The 7th-floor bathhouse also has a cold bath, which was a nice surprise. One odd thing: the front desk shares space with the Family Mart cash register, something I've never seen at any of the many hotels I've stayed in. And there's no hand soap in the room, so you have to pick some up at reception.

The rooftop public bath had an amazing view, and the unit bath was laid out with the bath, toilet and sink separate. I also liked the good selection of alcohol at the convenience store downstairs. I'd definitely stay here again if I come to Uwajima.

Free bike rental was a nice extra, and the staff at reception, who work for FamilyMart, were very helpful. The washing machine is free to use, detergent included, while the dryer costs 100 yen for 20 minutes. There's also a sauna and cold plunge. I arrived around 2 PM to leave my luggage and was told I could check in and use the bath then, even though the posted bath hours are 5 PM to 10 PM. I was a bit lost at first because reception is reached through the FamilyMart. I think this is a hidden gem in Uwajima.

The room was comfortable, and having a convenience store on the first floor made shopping easy. A few things were awkward: the room door was hard to open, the bathroom door took real force to shut, and there was no power outlet by the bed. There's a guide to opening the room door on the elevator wall, so it's worth reading.

We had a great view from the bath on the seventh floor. It's small, but we had it to ourselves. The mattresses and futon were very comfortable, and the room had a kitchen, big fridge, sofa, plus plenty of shelves and hangers. It seemed like two single rooms joined together, and I could easily imagine staying there for a while. The hotel is just off the highway, with a large Family Mart on the first floor. I'd love to come back.
