Guesthouse Manmaru

The place is clean and decent for the price, but there’s no soundproofing, and the owners showed little interest in helping guests. They never answered our emails. When our flight was delayed and we couldn’t find a taxi, they told us we were “on our own.” We then walked for more than two hours in the dark, carrying our suitcases. We tried to arrange breakfast, but they said it wasn’t possible because we hadn’t booked before 6 pm, even though we’d been delayed six hours and they hadn’t replied to us. When we tried again 24 hours ahead, they still said it wasn’t possible. If you’re fine with having no contact with your host, this guesthouse may suit you. I can’t recommend it.

The owners are incredibly nice, and you can get lunch boxes for a day out on the island. The owner also makes a great coffee, grinding the beans by hand. It’s a beautiful, minimalist hotel, just a little off the beaten path. Anbo port and town are an easy walk away.

The owners were super accommodating, and their friendly cats wander around and are happy to play with you. The room was beautiful and just a few minutes on foot from Anbo port. Rooms have private toilets. There’s a shared bathhouse overlooking the beach, open from 5 to 9 pm, as well as private shower and bath facilities and a guest kitchen.

Dinner was delicious and breakfast was great. The cats are cute too, and you can play with them during your stay. The place is only about a hundred steps from the beach, though it’s rocky and you can’t swim there. Since it faces east, we could easily watch the sunrise. There’s no bath in the room. The main building has two shared bathrooms, and the hot spring is open only at night. The water looked like boiled water.
