La Isla Tasse

I’m Taiwanese, so it meant a lot to hear that the owner’s grandfather loved Tainan, Taiwan too. The house was entrusted to him by his mother, and he keeps the interior in beautiful condition. He was very kind, and I’m grateful he helped arrange a rental car for my family. His help made the trip feel smooth and fortunate. Thank you.

My mum and I felt at home right away. The owner was lovely and helpful, and communicating was easy with the translation app he uses. The location is just right too. Such a great place, and I highly recommend staying here.

For hikers, this was a really handy base. We walked to the Anbo tourist center for shuttle tickets to the Arakawa trailhead, then caught a bus from the nearby Anbo stop to the shuttle. There’s also a bento ordering service for food to take along the next day. Several restaurants and Yamashita kayak rental are within walking distance too, and the Anbo bus stop is about five minutes away. The house has around eight guest rooms upstairs, with two shared bathrooms and toilets. We only had to wait for a bathroom once, though sharing them may not suit anyone hoping to spend a lot of time relaxing in their room. Ours was clean and simple, but quite small, with little space to hang out. The hosts were generous and kind. We didn’t speak much Japanese and they didn’t speak much English, but translation devices helped us communicate. They even drove us to the airport when we left. We stayed during a recent visit to Yakushima and would gladly recommend the place, especially as a base for exploring the island or hiking to Jomonsugi/Mt Miyanoura.

The place is a large house with a European-style design, and the rooms and shared bathrooms were clean and nice. It’s well placed on the island, close to good restaurants and a lovely river. The owner was incredibly welcoming and kind. Highly recommend.
