We couldn’t go to the onsen because reception said day visits only start at 3:00pm. The Yakushima brochure lists day use from 11:00am to 10:00pm. Maybe winter hours are different, but the Manten website doesn’t give any information about day use.

The breakfast and dinner were both delicious. The open-air bath and sauna are great, and it’s close to the airport.

The room was spacious and nice, but breakfast cost an extra 1000 yen. What I got matched the picture. The salmon was sliced so thinly, the technique was impressive. The natto portion looked like one pack split between three people, and there was just one sheet of seaweed. The picture shows it before I touched it. Disappointing.

We booked a package with breakfast and dinner, and since we had an early hike the next day, the owner even made us a leaf bento. Dinner was filling and delicious too. A car is recommended if you want to get around conveniently. This isn’t a five-star hotel, but there is a simple public bath. I’d recommend it to people who like a local home stay, backpackers, and families.

Nice inn. I left the head of my fried shrimp, but a little girl who looked about two scolded me, so I ended up eating it. It was fragrant and tasty. Funny thing is, she ate just the head and left the body. (^o^)
