Hishiya Torazo

I'm starting to appreciate ryokan with that nostalgic, home-like feel. This one is well placed near the best local public baths and the bus station. Most of the room was very clean, but there was quite a lot of dust in some spots. The large outdoor bath is amazing and open around the clock. Just be aware there's no hot water on tap in the baths. I'm grateful for the experience and the proprietors' hospitality.

The rooms are clean and stay warm in winter with the heater, and the thermal water is very clean too. You can wear a traditional yukata and shoes. The place is amazing, and they speak English.

The room had a spacious layout and a traditional feel, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. It's also in a great spot for reaching all nine public baths and catching the bus to Snow Monkey Park. Plenty of good neighborhood diners are within walking distance, so finding food was easy. The unusual thing is that the whole place runs on onsen water. There's no separate hot water supply, and since the bath is shared, I wasn't sure how clean I felt after soaking. I did use the onsen, then rinsed off with cold water and felt a bit like Wim Hof. If regular showers matter to you, keep that in mind. There was no toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, or shaving kit provided either, so bring your own or get them at a nearby shop. It was definitely an experience. If you're into onsen, it's a great place, though adjusting may be harder if you're used to ordinary showers and your own hot water.

The inn feels like a piece of history, and the traditional breakfast was so good. Mr. Tozaro was warm, accommodating, and helpful.
