We stayed one night in this cozy, peaceful place, and the owner was thoughtful. The chef learned to cook in France, while his brother handles the service. Their croissant with homemade jam was tasty 🥰

A nice little hostel-style place, within walking distance of chestnut pave way. Apple season seems like a good time to come. I didn't get to try the food. The one drawback is having to carry your luggage upstairs.

Summer 2025. It had been several years since my first visit to Obuse, and we came near the end of our trip this time because my wife loves the area's chestnuts. I'm not much of a French cuisine fan, but our planned restaurant was closed, so I decided to stay overnight and eat here. That turned out to be a great call. I'm not a big eater, so I chose Course A for 3,850 yen, then paid 700 yen extra for my favorite, roast lamb, as the main. The meal began with assorted vegetables dressed in a refreshing basil and vinegar sauce, followed by mild, delicious smoked salmon. The whole wheat and sesame bread came with pork rillettes, which were exceptionally good. I usually don't eat much bread, but I had a second helping. The lamb was so tender I couldn't work out how it had been cooked, and the preparation really brought out its flavor. It was the reddest roast I've ever seen. Dessert was chestnut-flavored crème brûlée. I don't usually feel I need dessert, but this one opened my eyes. The sauce was subtle and let the ingredients come through. I was very satisfied.

The freshly baked croissants at breakfast are delicious, and the meals here are a real highlight, with quality that feels fairly priced and very satisfying. My room was clean, with the toilet and bathroom separate. The location is ideal, close to Iwamatsu-in Temple and the Hokusai Museum. I first came in March last year and returned in November this year. Both trips, I wanted to buy Iwamatsu-in Temple's Happo-Nirami Houou and wine from Obuse Winery, and have dinner here ♡ I'll definitely come back next year.
