The service was the worst part for us. The owner wouldn’t help us call a towing company and wouldn’t let the temporary staff lend us a phone to make the call ourselves. The owner’s manner felt quite rude, and I can’t say whether it was because we weren’t locals. Getting to the hotel was also difficult. Without a 4WD car with chains, it wasn’t accessible by car. The only way down on foot was a very steep, slippery route, about 150 meters from the nearest slope. In the room, the light by the toilet switched off after 10-15 seconds unless you kept waving your hand. There was no outlet unless we unplugged the TV, no refrigerator, and no kettle. They did provide a medium vacuum flask of hot water, but it couldn’t be refilled. There were no bathing towels or clothing baskets in the bathing area, and three very large spiders in the shower were scary. The corridors were barely lit, though I know that’s not unusual in older hotels in Japan. The Wi-Fi also died every night and seemed to work better in the morning. The food was enough to get by, but I wouldn’t expect much. Overall, I’d give the stay 1.5 stars. At least it gives you, your family, and friends something to talk about for years.
