The breakfast was tasty and generous, and the rooms were delightful with great amenities. We even found kimonos in all our rooms, which was a cute touch. The bath at the guesthouse was so nice that we didn't feel a need to visit the Shiga Onsens, which are over 3 km away. There's also a massage chair. The family was so sweet and welcoming. They picked us up at the train station, took us right to the Snow Monkey Park entrance, and had our luggage waiting in the room when we got back. It's about a 10-15 minute uphill walk to the train station, though the owner often gives guests a ride.

The private onsens were a big highlight, and the breakfast and dinner were the best. We stayed with my partner in February 2026, and the couple who own and run the place were welcoming and very friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. They drove us to and from the train station and also gave us a ride to the monkey hot springs. An amazing experience we'll never forget.

We only stayed one night, but it was the highlight of our ten-day Japan trip. We really wish we'd booked longer. Dinner was hands down the best meal of our trip: about twelve different dishes, all delicious. One of us was vegetarian, and although we were initially unsure what they'd serve, the meal was wonderful. The owner's homemade plum wine was very good and strong. We chose a traditional Japanese room for three. It was spacious, and the comfortable futons and plush bedding made it the best sleep of our trip. The hotel has a shared bathroom by gender. I was hesitant at first, but it didn't get in the way of our stay, and I barely thought about it once we arrived. There are two onsens, one larger with a bigger bath and about four shower heads, and a smaller one with two heads that can still fit four people comfortably. These are the only showers. Each has a separate changing room with a door between it and the bath and showers. You can reserve the smaller onsen for private use by putting the curtain down in front. Each room gets 30 minutes. It's first come, first served, so you have to go check if one is free. We had no trouble getting one, even though I think the hotel was fully booked. The owner contacted us a few hours after booking to ask when we'd arrive and whether we'd like to reserve dinner. She offered pickup from the bus station and a ride straight to the snow monkey park. On the day, our original travel plans fell through and we had to delay. I emailed through booking.com and got a quick reply. They picked us up later at the train station instead, and the owner still took us to the park. She explained which bus to take and where to get off on the way back. The stop is about a four-minute walk from the hotel, just behind a Lawson. At dinner, the owner asked what time we were leaving the next day, planned breakfast accordingly, and arranged our ride to the station.

The elderly couple who run the place were amazing. The owner drove us from Yudanaka station and took us to the snow monkey park, then even delivered our luggage to our next hotel nearby. Breakfast was truly exceptional. There are two private onsens, both really nice, and a 7/11 and a drugstore with lots of household goods and snacks close by. 10/10, recommend.

The rooms were comfortable, and the inn and onsen were kept very clean. Breakfast and dinner were superb multi-course meals, served with so much care. We had two onsens: one smaller and hotter, the other larger, airier, and looking out onto a garden. This was the kindest, most hospitable place of our two-week trip. Our host was so thoughtful that she even gave my wife a few birthday gifts. The inn is behind a 7-11 convenience store, though we hardly noticed.
