Koko Hotel Yokohama Tsurumi

We spent a couple of nights here, and it was probably one of the worst hotels we’ve tried in Japan. The room was tiny, so good luck opening your luggage, and the restroom was so cramped that if you’re tall you have to sit at an angle to keep your legs from hitting the door. There’s no ramp to the lobby either, so you have to lift your bags up the stairs. At least it’s about a five-minute walk to a JR station, costs relatively less than other Yokohama hotels, and they let us leave our luggage before check-in. But the room didn’t seem properly cleaned: there was still toilet paper in the toilet when we checked in, and we found hair on the bed.

The room was small, but the front desk staff and housekeepers were friendly, helpful, and great. It’s convenient too, just a couple of blocks from the train station, with a 7-11 across the street.

For my conference at the nearby Riken Institute, this was a good business hotel. It’s near plenty of restaurants and the metro/train station, and the service was very polite. The rooms are tiny but clean. There weren’t many English speakers, which could be an issue if you don’t speak Japanese. They serve breakfast in the morning. It was decent, though expensive.

A convenient, safe option for an expensive Japan. The hotel is right in front of KK Station Tsurumi, with the JR Line and KK Line there, so getting around is easy. Yokohama is about 6 miles away and Tokyo CBD around 20. There are also plenty of shops and two shopping centers within 500m. As a BW Top Status guest, I got extra water bottles and a bigger room. Even at double size, it was still a shoe box, no more than 15m2. There was only one English language TV program, CNN, and the WiFi sometimes faded out. The staff were really nice, though not very fluent in anything but Japanese. Breakfast cost 1100Y, and they gave me 600Y-off coupons. I wanted to try it, but the 6.30-9.30 timing wasn’t convenient.
