Yokohama Central Hostel

The dorm beds have blackout curtains, and the separate men’s and women’s bathrooms and showers meant I never had to wait. There are slippers to use indoors, plus a kitchen and coin laundry. The dorm itself was nice. What really made the stay for me was the staff. They carried my luggage up the stairs when I arrived, then helped me take my suitcases to the nearest Yamato, which was some distance away. They were such sweet, kind people. The hostel is also close to Chinatown and within walking distance of lots of other sights. One of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed in.

The hostel is next to Yokohama Chinatown and was very clean, with a kitchen and coin laundry room. The price was incredibly cheap, and the people working there were all kind and friendly. The man who welcomed us spoke good English and explained some good places to visit around Yokohama. He also gave us a 100 Yen discount voucher for the Senkeien Garden entrance ticket. They helped us a lot. When we left, one staff member carried our bags to the first floor. Another took us to the nearest bus stop for Senkeien Garden, waited until we were leaving, then waved and said goodbye. A staff member also offered to keep our luggage for free until we left Yokohama that night. Their kindness really touched us.

It’s affordable and close to lots of Yokohama sightseeing spots, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. I also met another hostel guest and became friends, which made the stay more memorable. Just be aware that some guests may take your food or personal things.

Toast, coffee, and tea are available each morning, which makes it easy to meet other guests and swap stories and tips. The people running the hostel are very friendly and gave me useful ideas about what to see and where to go. As a European, I found there’s a lot to experience in Japan, and the efficient public transport connects fairly close to the hostel. If you’re visiting Yokohama or Tokyo for sightseeing and culture, I’d highly recommend it.
