The onsen was one of the best parts of our stay. It’s large, clean, and relaxing, with four indoor baths and four outdoor onsen features, and it made a great place to unwind after long days walking around. For what the stay cost, having access to that spa area added a lot. We were at APA Hotel & Resort Yokohama Bay Tower, about a three-minute walk from Bashamichi Station, with restaurants and places like Yokohama World Porters, Cup Noodles Museum Yokohama, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, Yamashita Park, and Yokohama Chinatown nearby. It also worked as a base for Tokyo, Enoshima, Kamakura, and Tokyo Disney Resort, including Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. My boyfriend and I booked a standard room. It was small, as expected, but we packed light and tucked our suitcase under the bed, so we managed. More than two large bags would be awkward, with little space to walk or open several at once. We were out most of the day, then used the onsen for about an hour before bed, so we never needed the small shower in the room. The breakfast buffet we tried one morning was disappointing: it was nearly empty, and the food tasted old and stale, probably because it had been sitting out with few guests. Temperature control was another frustration. We were there in February, and the room was warmer than the hallway, which felt cooler and more comfortable. A small air circulator helped a little but didn’t make much difference. It works well if you mainly need a clean, convenient place to sleep while exploring, as long as you’re prepared for a compact room and limited temperature control.
The shops and food options are useful: there are two Family marts on the 4th floor, another two-minute walk outside, and several restaurants. The ramen place seemed popular and was pretty good, with takeaway available for the room. I didn’t use the public bath, though the TV report and the busy hotel made it seem well used. Reception staff were generally good. The cleaners were a different story. If you’re not up by 8:30 AM, you may wake to vacuuming, loud banging on walls, and shouting in the hallway. The elevators are frustrating too. There are several banks serving different floors, which makes meeting someone on another floor a hassle. My friend was on 16 and I was on 22, so I had to meet him in the lobby or switch elevators on 21. The elevator priority also seemed odd: on 21 I had to wait for one coming up from the ground floor instead of using one sitting on 23. The view depends on what you pay for and a bit of luck. I got a construction site and crane. The main problem was the heat. Central air made the room unbearably hot, with temperatures of 26-35°C, and guests can’t adjust it or open windows. The hallway was a comfortable 18°C. I tried wedging the door open to cool the room, but staff told my friend off for doing that. The attached photo showed the temperature shortly after check-in, a guest’s first impression. It was 12°C in Yokohama on 18/01/2026. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone got seriously ill or died from the conditions. I’ve stayed at many APA hotels, Toyoko Inns, and Mystays on frequent trips to Japan, but this one was unpleasant. A good night’s sleep and customer satisfaction should be a hotel’s top priorities, and this place doesn’t deliver. I don’t think I’ll stay here again.
Our room faced the cosmoworld, which we were lucky to get, and the location was very convenient, right across from worlds porter. The room was small, but the twin beds were pushed together and felt comfortable. Even with the huge building constantly handling check-ins and checkouts, the staff were polite, professional, efficient, and friendly. Check-in went smoothly. The room stayed warm during autumn without us needing to turn on the heater, and ventilation was good. I’ll definitely come back.
The hotel is easy to spot because it’s so tall, and there’s a subway station a few hundred meters away. Yokohama station is only a few stops from there. During my four-night trip to Japan, I arrived at 3 PM and was stunned by the check-in crowd. It felt like an airport. My booking was for a bay view, but the first room looked into the hotel’s inner courtyard. Even with a language barrier, the receptionist managed to move me to the room I’d booked. The room felt modern and had good equipment, although the single room was so small I kept my luggage under the bed and pulled it out whenever I needed something. There are two Familymarts on the 4th floor and a few restaurants on floors 1 to 3. Breakfast wasn’t included in my booking, so I can’t comment on it. It’s a very good hotel, but there are a huge number of guests, so you won’t feel like you’re the only one staying there.
I know Apa Hotel, but this one was unusual. The room cost a lot for what it was, and even with a huge counter there was always a wait. The elevators took ages too, and the rooms were overheated, like others have said. The service is why I’m giving one star. If you’ve heard about Japanese service, forget it here. I was told parking was included, then waited five minutes at the desk just to be told it wasn’t. I chose a taxi because I didn’t want to pay every time I took my bike out. I waited again while asking them to hold my helmet, then was told to queue. At another counter, a man refused to take it and very aggressively told me to go back to my room. The whole team was the worst staff I’ve dealt with.
