It would’ve been a fun little mountain to do laps on with better snow. When we were there, conditions weren’t good. Seems like a good place for beginners.

The quick lifts meant we didn’t have to queue, and the slopes were usually quiet and gentle enough to enjoy the powder without crowds. Mount Racey isn’t huge, but its dependable weather across the season makes it suitable for everyone from beginners to experts.

The hotel had closed after going bankrupt, and only two chairlifts were running.

It’s smaller than Furano or Niseko, though there’s still enough terrain here for experienced skiers to enjoy. My day was cut short when wind shut down the gondola at lunchtime. The ¥4000 price seemed good if the gondola was available. The ride up felt a bit slow, though I can’t say if the wind was the reason.

We had a great time skiing here. It’s not far from Sapporo, and the spot was little known and empty when we went. I’d suggest it if the other ski areas feel too crowded.
