2026/02/04 A fantastic guesthouse. It's just 200 meters from Yufuin Station, about a 3-4 minute walk along Yufuin-mi-dori. Facing out from the station's main entrance, it's on the right. Walk straight past a convenience store and public restroom, and you'll soon spot the beige building. It's beside a large parking lot and pachinko parlor, so if you've reached those, you've gone a little too far. Before check-in, if you're arriving with luggage by public transport, there are lockers along the path in front of the station that cost less than the station lockers. The guesthouse has a self-check-in system. The owner sends details and a link by email, so keep an eye on your inbox. It's best to complete the online check-in ahead of time, entering each guest's nationality, phone number and address, and uploading passport and headshot photos. The system then gives you a QR code, and you'll also need to enter details for your travel companions. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM. Before then, the owner emails the door code for the entrance. On arrival, enter that code, find the tablet to the right of the entrance, and scan its QR code using the pre-check-in link on your phone. The tablet shows the information you submitted. Once you've checked it, it displays the room name and code. This process may feel like a lot, but it's required by local law, and doing it at the tablet on arrival is more of a hassle. The host emails your room name in English beforehand. Keep that email, since the room name shown at check-out is only in English and you may need it. Our second-floor room had a living room, dining room, kitchen, two toilets, a bathroom, a hot spring bath and three bedrooms, one Japanese-style tatami room and two Western-style twin rooms. It can sleep at least eight people. The hot spring bath connects to the tatami room. There’s an elevator, which is handy if you have big bags. The host provides almost every kind of dish and kitchen utensil, plus a washer-dryer and free cleaning supplies. Free Netflix was a thoughtful extra. The host also puts instructions for the facilities and appliances in a folder. The bath is semi-open, with horizontal bars across the window, so you can see the stars while soaking. In winter, cool air comes in from outside, which adds to the experience. The hot spring has separate hot and cold water valves. The host turns on the hot spring valve to fill it before your stay. If the water feels too hot, adjust the cold water or lower the hot spring flow, but don't turn the hot spring off completely or there won't be any the next morning. Please shower in the bathroom before getting in, and don't use shampoo or shower gel in the pool, so wastewater doesn't end up polluting the sea. A few useful details in brief: the place is on Yufuin-mi-dori, very close to Yufuin Station, with self-service check-in and a pre-arrival email link. It has three bedrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, two toilets, a bathroom and a hot spring bath, and sleeps at least eight. Kitchenware, tableware, a washer-dryer, cleaning supplies and Netflix are provided. The hot spring has separate hot and cold controls.
