The location worked well for exploring Yufuin and Beppu. Kinrin lake and Yufuin floral village are both within walking distance, so you can head out early or near closing time to miss the big crowds. It’s a self-contained private villa, and the host did their best to explain parking and house rules. Seems like they’ve had guests ignore the rules before, so please don’t be a nuisance 😅 There’s a washing machine, but no dryer, so you’ll need to hang the clothes to dry. That could be harder in winter. The staircase is on the steep side. The downstairs main room smelled a bit musty and needed airing out before it was okay.

The place is a great guesthouse, and you can soak in a hot spring right inside. It’s a little hard to find, but that didn’t spoil our stay. There’s a kitchen too, and I recommend picking up Wagyu beef at the supermarket to cook there. Upstairs are three double beds, with tatami mats on the first floor. For check-in, the key is in a lockbox on the pillar to the left of the entrance, and you’ll need a password. It’s not in the mailbox on the ground.

We were lucky to get snowfall during our stay from March 18th to 20th, even though it was mid-March. The guesthouse has everything you need, including a private hot spring and ensuite bathroom. The road right outside is narrow, so take care driving. We booked and then communicated by email, and they replied very quickly. On check-in day, they sent the key box combination by email. It’s a fantastic guesthouse.
