The meals were a big disappointment. Though dinner and breakfast were included, dinner looked like a supermarket takeaway bento, arrived cold, and the portions were tiny. The potato soup was gone in two spoonfuls. Breakfast was cold the next morning as well. The room had traditional Japanese styling, but the interior felt old. Dusty, dirty lampshades, a smelly carpet, dim toilet lighting, poor ventilation, and a bad toilet odor all made the stay unpleasant. The room's onsen water was only lukewarm. I could see only one staff member, doing reception, waiting, and cooking. He wasn't Japanese and didn't understand English well. He was rude and didn't show the traditional Japanese courtesy and respect I expected when greeting guests. The Google location was completely wrong, and after driving around the shopping street a few times, we finally spotted the tiny hotel sign. The check-in felt odd, as no one asked for our VISA or a deposit. The car park isn't beside the hotel, and we couldn't find it until a staff member showed us where it was. This was the worst experience I've ever had.

I spent HKD 3000 for this poor service, and you have to deal with the guy's bad attitude. Dinner and breakfast were poor too 😑 Parking was inconvenient, with a few minutes' walk required. I'd tell friends to just spend a few hours sightseeing in Yufuin and not pay to stay here.

It's right in the center of Yufuin Village, a short walk from the Kirin Lake. The reception can be hard to spot: it's a pub next to a curry restaurant, and it may have a “closed” sign during the day. The ryokan itself is lovely and cozy, with a great living room and bedroom. My room's stone natural onsen bath was just perfect, and the meals were delicious. No flaws for me, and I'd gladly return if I get the chance.
