Ryokan Izumoya

The food was delicious, and the service stood out most to me. The staff and owners were friendly and helpful. They don't speak much English, but they made a real effort to understand us and explain things with a small portable translation device. The ryokan itself is clean, cosy, and friendly. Coming from a noisy, crowded city, I found the surroundings felt like heaven. This is the first ryokan I've recommended, and you won't regret choosing it when you visit Kyushu.

Absolutely perfect, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The people were incredibly nice, the room was lovely, the food amazing, and the onsen was nice too. Probably one of the best things I've done in Japan.

The food was exquisite, and the handwritten map really warmed my heart. It's a little far out, but the inn was such a pleasant place to stay. The owner and his wife were very attentive, and their service impressed me. My detached room was spotless, with thoughtful touches everywhere. I couldn't finish the food, so I brought the leftovers back to my room and they kindly wrapped them up. They also lent me a lantern for a nighttime walk along the streets, which I enjoyed. I heard they were affected by the heavy rains, and I hope they recover.

In August 2025, I stayed one night, Sunday to Monday. Before check-in, they called to explain the parking area. I'd already checked it on Google Maps, so finding the inn's parking lot was easy. Once I got there, I called and they came to pick me up. I booked a detached room. The landlady explained how things worked, and we chatted. She was very talkative and told me all about Yuhira. The room had two Japanese-style rooms and an indoor hot spring bath. It was spacious, perfectly clean, and absolutely amazing. The bath had continuously flowing water and fit two adults comfortably. There is also an indoor bath in the main building and an open-air bath near the detached one. Both are for private use. We ate dinner and breakfast in the dining area, and the food was as delicious as people say. I was very satisfied. The room, food, owner, and landlady's hospitality were all excellent, and I'll definitely return. Yuhira Onsen is in the middle of nowhere, but it's a perfect place to enjoy a ryokan and take in the sounds and colors of nature. A few things to know: the road into the ryokan is incredibly narrow, so driving straight there can be difficult if you're not used to it. Check the parking lot on Google Maps beforehand. There are no shops nearby, and no convenience stores within a 15-minute drive, so it's best to get food early.
