Asagirinomieru Yado Yufuin Hanayoshi

We got complimentary pickup from the station, and for the price, it was a good stay. The rooms were spacious, and the outdoor bath had a great view. Dinner and breakfast portions were well judged. Service could use some improvement: a few staff members seemed undertrained, and dinner pacing was uneven, with some courses arriving quickly and others taking too long.

We stayed two nights and enjoyed both the kaiseki dinners and breakfast. The food was great, the room was spotless, and we especially liked having our own onsen. The view was lovely, and the service at hanayoshi really stood out compared with the few other ryokans we’ve visited in Japan.

The view is one of the best in the area, and both dinner and service were excellent. It’s a little farther from the onsen Main Street, but worth staying even for just a night. I only wish we’d had more time nearby.

Dinner and breakfast were plentiful and better than what we’ve had at most onsen hotels. We ate in a private dining room, though the drink choices were limited. Given how remote the hotel is, having liquor service in the room would have been a nice touch. We brought my parents to Hanayoshi for my dad’s birthday and stayed in Room K. The private onsen and foot bath looked out toward Mt. Yufuin, and the spacious, spotless room had a massage chair my parents loved. We also chose it for the detached layout, and its garden was a peaceful spot where we spent quite a while. After coming from Tokyo, we really needed that quiet. The staff made the stay memorable. They contacted us ahead of time to arrange pickup and meal times, and check-in went smoothly. Everyone was warm and welcoming while still professional. My parents don’t speak Japanese, but the staff spoke decent English and made a real effort to include them during the room tour. We had a delightful, memorable visit and can’t wait to see Hanayoshi in another season and enjoy different scenery.
