The nearby popular izakaya is just a one-minute walk away. The hosts were courteous and helpful, doing their best despite limited English communication. We ordered breakfast every morning because we liked it, and being able to use the onsen facilities privately was a plus. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Tottori prefecture.

Hawai Onsen is a peaceful, relaxing setting, and getting here from the train station is easy. Ryosuke and his family run this family onsen, a great place if you want to experience a classic Japanese inn and onsen. His parents are excellent chefs and make delicious traditional Japanese dishes. I highly recommend staying here!

I booked through a travel site, but there had apparently been a double booking. They phoned to ask me to change my planned check-in date or cancel. I found it unpleasant that they were laughing as they told me. This was such a shame for us, and I wondered why they laughed while saying it.

There are about two crabs per person, and they’re great with rice porridge. The clam soup is delicious too, and the staff are very kind. I’ve been coming here for 8 years! It’s near the filming location for the Korean drama Athens. If you have time, come and give it a try 😃
