Our first cheetah sighting happened here, and we got to watch her during sundowners. Getting around the Mara with John felt effortless. With more than 25 years of experience there, he taught us to read the bush: a zebra's gaze, guinea fowl alarm calls, and monkeys' behaviour could all point to a nearby leopard. His knowledge, respect for the land, and conservation passion changed how we experienced safari. We stayed three nights in late January at Saruni Wild in the Lemek/Mara North Conservancy for our honeymoon. Most of the time there were only four guests, including us; at the busiest point there were around eight. Being in a conservancy with so few people meant few vehicles at sightings and wildlife viewing that felt respectful. It's important to us that tourism protects the ecosystem and puts the animals first. The camp is right in the bush. Our canvas tent was surrounded by it, with herds of more than 400 buffalo and hippos often passing nearby. The night staff deserve a lot of credit for keeping us safe. The tent was beautiful, the team made the experience feel both luxurious and real, and Thomas took excellent care of it. Gladys, the manager at Wild, was wonderful too. William made the stay personal. By the second day he knew our routines and preferences, bringing a double espresso before our game drive and our favourite Kenyan beer, Tusker. He was warm, intuitive and endlessly kind. We also had breakfast in the bush every day, which was a treat. The chef made wonderful meals, including an authentic Kenyan dinner and a traditional Swahili lunch. The sundowner snacks might be my favourite ever: house-made plantain, cassava and root vegetable chips. I'd have bought bags to take back to Canada if I could. We left talking about coming back to spend more time with John, William and the Saruni Wild team. Unforgettable.

Kampala was the highlight of my whole trip. His tracking and sense of what animals would do were next level, and he even knew where to position the car for photos. We spotted a cheetah under a tree. Rather than driving straight up, we circled around and drove about 3/4 of a mile across a hill because Kampala thought it would move that way. It did, and we ended up in the perfect spot. He was so good that we kept him as our guide at Eagle View too. I spent three weeks travelling around Kenya and stayed at three Saruni camps: Wild, Eagle View and Samburu. They were all good in different ways, but Wild felt the most special. Simon provided the best hotel service I've ever had, anticipating what I wanted. The food was good, especially desserts and coffee. The cappuccinos were world class. At camp, zebras graze about 15 yards from the main area, and askari guards escort you at night because animals are nearby. WiFi was a bit spotty, which makes sense given the location. I was in Tent 5, where the water pressure was a bit weak, but the water was always hot. I'd absolutely recommend Wild for a luxury safari. We saw every animal except rhinos and got within arm's reach of lions, elephants, leopards and cheetahs. Seeing them with nobody else in sight was remarkable.

We saw every major species, including all the big cats, within 24 hours and a 3 km radius. That gives you an idea of this remarkable place, a beautiful and private camp in a land teeming with wildlife. Even “miracle” doesn't quite cover it. Camp manager Chris, butler Simon and the whole team handled everything with care and precision. I'd love to return soon.

We liked Saruni Wild so much that we changed our honeymoon plans from two nights to three. It's a luxury stay right out in the wild. Our tent was roomy, comfortable and relaxing, tucked away while still feeling safe. We spent lovely afternoons on the porch looking over the savanna. John was our private guide and was incredible. Every drive brought unbelievable sightings. He knew so much and shared stories about the local conservancy, his family and culture. The team also made us feel welcome and helped make the trip special. William looked after us so well, and Chris was a fantastic camp manager. We enjoyed hearing his stories about his experiences and local culture around the campfire. The special birthday song was a highlight. The food was the best we had in Kenya, especially the delicious local meal one night. With so few tents, the camp feels intimate and special. This was an unforgettable stay. Don't hesitate to book!

David made our sunrise and sunset drives so much fun that we were sorry to leave him. He knew the savannah and its wildlife well, and spotted a pride of lions sleeping under a tree from a mile away. We saw around 35 different animals, including lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and zebras. We spent four honeymoon nights at Saruni Wild and would recommend it to anyone. The camp was delightful, with a lovely room, comfy bed, shower and verandah looking over the savannah. The friendly staff made our stay feel personal, with early coffee wake-up calls and late-night campfires. Everyone was brilliant, and the food was amazing: we'd expected basic barbecue food, but got incredible three-course meals with dishes from around the world. African night was especially tasty. We've already told friends and family to choose Saruni Wild if they go on safari.
