Karen Blixen Camp

The kindness of the people here is unlike anything I've met elsewhere. There's a real warmth to them that stays with you. This was my first time in Africa, and specifically Kenya, and the energy at Karen Blixen Camp felt so special and welcoming. Everything was thought through, from the rooms to the little details. After safari, they brought a warm towel to freshen up, and my room was right by the water. The safari itself was extraordinary. On the first day, I sat with my morning coffee and saw elephants, giraffes, and hyenas going about their day across the water. It felt so surreal, and so casually magical. I'm so blessed by god to have experienced this.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the rooms felt luxurious with personal attention every day. I liked finding a hot water bottle in bed at night. The food was very good, though a few courses weren't amazing. My one tiny complaint is the hot water schedule: showers are only hot at set times, and those tend to overlap with game drives. That's a bit unfortunate, but you can ask for hot water and it'll come about an hour later.

We saw so many animals every day, and Kennedy was an experienced safari guide who found everything we wanted to see. Ask for him. The tents were amazing, the staff friendly, and there was a good choice of dishes as well as a children's menu. Bring a winter coat, since it's cold early in the morning and after the sun goes down. This is THE place to go on safari.

The staff are what made our stay so memorable. They were among the kindest, loveliest and most hospitable people I've met. The camp was a wonderful find, thanks to our travel advisor, who suggested it among the many known places in the area. It's beautifully appointed and has green credentials. Nestled in nature beside the river, with wildlife all around, is a stroke of genius. The food, attention to detail, knowledgeable game drivers, and beautiful settings were all amazing.
