Olgatuni Camp

Especially good for a photography safari, I'd definitely recommend it. The camp is well located for getting close to the action, and the tents are in great condition, with hot water whenever you need a shower. Service was good, and the staff were friendly and polite. The food has improved since my last visit, though I'd still like to see it get better. The manager assured us that would happen.

We really loved this place. We're a 34-year-old Italian and French couple, and being out in the wild at the heart of the Masai Mara, with no fence and animals in camp, felt special. Staff can take you on a walk to see hippos and crocodiles. The tents are comfortable, close to nature, and the homemade food is tasty. The staff are friendly too. Go if you want an authentic experience you won't forget. Afterwards we stayed at a more expensive four-star hotel. It cost much more and felt far less distinctive, more geared to mass tourism.

From the camp, we saw lion prides just outside on most morning drives, and elephants walking into the sunset. Hyenas, banded jackals, cheetahs, and leopards were close by too. Johnson, the property manager, the staff, and security made the trip wonderful. Safari Monks arranged our stay at Olgatuni Camp, and it gave us everything we expected and more. Set in the savannah, the unfenced camp reaches into the forest, as the administration doesn't allow fences. At night we could hear the forest, birds, and hippos calling. The tents were comfortable and fully equipped, including hot water. Security staff were available to escort guests around the property from 6 pm to 6 am. We were travelling with senior citizens and had let the camp know about vegetarian meals on certain days. The chef went out of his way to make Indian meals, alongside delicious African and continental choices at all three meals. Packed breakfasts and the sundowner hamper were carefully put together. We spent Christmas there, and the camp held a special celebration for guests. Be sure to ask about the escorted walking safari to the hippo drinking and bathing hole just behind camp. It was well worth it.

My family and I loved every moment here. I travelled with my child and parents, who are senior citizens, and everyone enjoyed the stay. My little one was thrilled to sleep in a tent in the heart of the jungle. The experience is still close to my heart. Thank you, team Olgatuni, for the hospitality. It's inside Masai Mara National park, with no fence, as required for lodges in the park, so you feel very close to nature and wildlife. The lodge is near a river with lots of hippos, which you can view by walking down the path with a staff Masai man. It's not far from the Mara river where the main migration happens. The tents have the basics, including hot water, and the beds are very comfortable. The food was the best we had in Kenya. The menu was limited, but every dish was tasty. We loved the rice, chicken curry, and an avocado dessert. The staff were courteous and helpful, and made us feel at home. Even when we left for safari at 5:15 am, the whole team was up with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. They also packed breakfast with aloo paratha and chole, which felt like pure bliss for Indians out in the Masai Mara forest. They arranged a beautiful, unforgettable sundowner for us too.
