Rusinga Blue Ridge Hotel

The location is convenient, close to the beach and ferry, and there’s a club that was a nice place to spend the night. But the rooms were tiny and horrible, with filthy bathrooms. Ours had no window, and the hand basin was practically hanging on by a thread. There was no hot water in the shower in the morning. We were a group, and a few people got some, but most of us didn’t. They kept promoting the pool while we were booking at reception, but nobody said it wasn’t usable. It was so dirty we couldn’t swim in it. Honestly, the place was a total joke.

It was horrible and filthy, with insects crawling all over the bed. The place in the photos doesn’t look like what’s actually there. The pool was dirty, and the bathroom had no ventilation. When rooms are cleaned, the doors are left wide open, so someone could walk in and steal your valuables. Oh my gosh, I think the place should be shut down.

I was looking forward to visiting Rusinga, but Blue Ridge left me disappointed. The food presentation was far below what I expected, and they should bring in qualified professionals because preparing food is an art. Their services need a lot of improvement. My room had a broken toilet and a torn mosquito net. The bedding was discoloured and smelled strongly of disinfectant, which I found unpleasant. With so many guests, some rooms were missing basic amenities, so they don’t seem ready for large crowds. The worst part was leaving my bag at reception for safekeeping and later finding it had been taken to the manager’s office. I thought it was for security, but then an arrogant male staff member, the Hotel Manager, accused me of taking a towel. I opened my bag as asked, and there was nothing of theirs inside. I always bring my own towels and don’t use hotel ones, which he could clearly see. Why didn’t he ask one of the female staff to check and excuse himself? Instead, he sat there shamelessly waiting to see the towel. Blue Ridge urgently needs to improve its service. I also want a public apology for this unacceptable treatment.

The pictures make it look one way, but the reality is worse.
