Mombasa Continental Hotel

The best part for me was the parking spot 🤭. The beach view was nice, but most of the sunbeds were worn and dirty. The bathroom in room 315 looked newly renovated, though the rest of the room felt neglected: uncomfortable bed, stained sheets 💩, and worn-out chairs that weren’t comfortable at all. The building feels old and like it needs a full renovation. Food wasn’t great, and breakfast was just ordinary. There was no wine I liked, so I didn’t have anything to drink. The staff didn’t seem welcoming or motivated. I stayed here with my boyfriend, and honestly, it was below average. I won’t stay again, it’s just not my kind of place.

The new wing is gorgeous, and we’ll be back! Our stay was short but sweet, with warm, friendly staff everywhere we went. Shaz, the social media manager, even took a few minutes to check in and see if everything was okay. I loved that. We found the place through Tiktok, all thanks to Shaz’s amazing work. Elizabeth looked after us at the pool bar, and the food deserves compliments to the chef :)

I stand by my one-star view. Unless you’re fine with classism and discrimination, I’d never recommend this place. My six friends and I are Black, and we were told to wash our feet in a dingy back area. We weren’t allowed in for a simple lunch, even though we were at a hotel right on the beach. If sand on our feet bothered us, we could have washed them ourselves. People have walked barefoot for ages, especially in Africa. They then had the guest who’d invited us come get us, only to condescendingly tell us to leave the premises and go around to the front. You have no right to chase anyone off property without a legitimate reason. It’s a human right to pass across land given to us all by God, and a lawyer has won a case on those grounds in Kenyan courts. All I was missing to be shown to the best table was white skin. As an African and Kenyan, I was absolutely disappointed and surprised by the profiling. If discrimination is your thing, you’ll fit right in.

The food was some of the best I’ve ever had, and they catered to dietary needs. Staff were among the politest, most courteous people I’ve met, and their English was amazing. Service covered the beach and pool, with food cooked to order and drinks served in full-size glasses. Even the soft drinks were original brands like Fanta and Coke-a-Cola. The sea views are amazing, with white sand and clear water right outside. Rooms are large and come with a fridge, A/C, and mosquito nets. I went in low season, so it was quiet for hotel guests, though the hotel is also a conference centre and is mainly used that way then. Team-building activities around the pool and beach got very loud. Also, work was underway at the hotel in October 2025, so be prepared for noise around the pool area especially 😒.
