Kendas Hotel sits close to the main road to Malindi in Mtwapa, and its dry palm leaf roof provides plenty of shade from the heat. The rooms are good, though some don't have mosquito nets. Ask, and they arrange to put one in quickly. Meals are made to order, drinks are easy to get, and the bat has a special performance night when nyama choma is available.

It's affordable and has a traditional feel, and its location is a big plus, though the service isn't that good. I liked having a mini bar right by the entrance. It's handy on days when you don't want to go out and just need a comfortable place to have a drink alone.

The service was very slow, and the place isn't worth the price. Meals were poorly cooked, burnt and over-spiced, and the surfaces in the rooms were dusty. The bed was the only part that was okay. The washroom and mats were very dirty, and there were no lights in the stairway or first-floor corridor.

Good value for the money, with great service and incredible staff. It's a cool place and definitely worth trying if you're visiting the area.

Sadly, this place has lost its former glory. It used to be the spot to go in Mtwapa, so I was disappointed.
