Dinner was lovely, and John, the barman and waiter, did a great job recommending Kenyan beer. His language skills were exceptional, and he’s an asset to the lodge. The spacious, comfortable rooms were lovely, though I missed having a hairdryer. The lodge’s eco approach is commendable, and it’s clear they work hard at it. I only stayed one night, but found the place lovely, tranquil, and very green, with gardens around the tents. Lunch was supposed to start at 12.30pm, but wasn’t ready until 1.20pm. It wasn’t a disaster, though it put pressure on the staff and left us embarrassed. The restaurant is quite a way up a hill from the tents, so we didn’t want to walk all the way down and then back up again. I’d put it at the top end of 3* hotels and would recommend it.

The staff were kind and helpful, and we had a great stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely view. It’s close to Solio, Olpajeta and Aberdere, so I’d strongly recommend it. One thing to improve is communication. It was hard to reach the staff on Whatsapp to make the booking, and we also ran into some communication issues at the lodge.

Aberdares NP is stunning and close by. We saw black and white Colubus monkeys, Sykes' Monkeys, and other wildlife, and it was beautiful seeing how the habitats differ from the plains. My wife and I spent four nights here to explore local farms, schools, and the park. The lodge is beautifully designed and built on a hillside, with tents and chalets. We stayed in chalet 11 at the top of the property, where the view of Mount Kenya is beautiful, usually clear at sunrise before it slips from sight. The chalet is solidly built, with a large, comfortable bed and mosquito netting. Behind it is a bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet. The solar-heated water supply is finite but ample, enough for two showers without trouble. We only had breakfast at the lodge while exploring the area, and it was fine. We also had one meal at the restaurant at the top of the property, wet Kienyeji chicken, which was delicious.

The bed creaked quite a bit and should be checked. Breakfast also had the same selection each day, though the jams were the best, as were the cupcakes. Lunch and dinner were good. We had a peaceful, relaxing time at rhino watch, with birds chirping and quiet all around. The staff were friendly and attentive right from the gate.

We had a good time here with my family and family friends and their families. The food was excellent, and the open windows in the dining area gave us a great view of Mount Kenya. We stayed in one of the tents and enjoyed it, with a shower and toilet inside. The infinity pool is nice, though it can feel very cold in such a chilly part of Kenya, and nights can get quite cold too. Ol Pajeta conservancy is an hour away, and they packed a reasonably priced, balanced lunch for our trip there. They could improve how they welcome guests, especially larger groups. Even though our trip was planned and we’d kept in touch, one of our own had to receive us, which is why I gave it 4.
