Blixen Resort & Spa

I felt welcome from the minute I arrived, thanks to the warm hospitality and care with the details. The accommodations were luxurious and made for a comfortable, relaxing stay. My experience went beyond what I expected, and I'm already looking forward to coming back.

Don't trust the fancy photos. This is a sad joke, not a hotel. I've stayed in countless hotels, motels, apartments and dorms at different price levels, including four other places in Kenya, and every one managed to provide the basic thing you expect from accommodation: a dry roof. Blixen Resort & Spa couldn't. On our first night, I woke up in the cold because rainwater was dripping right onto my face. The ceiling leaked directly over the bed. Our room also fell short of the photos in a lot of ways. Some windows wouldn't close, and without a mosquito net over the bed we got lots of mosquitoes. The shower had no enclosure, so the bathroom floor turned into a pool. One end of the towel rack wasn't fastened properly, and it came loose from the wall. There were spiderwebs on the ceiling, peeling paint all over, and shower water that kept shifting between cold and too hot. After we complained, they moved us to another room that seemed a little better. Then we discovered the toilet wouldn't flush. Staff said they'd fix it but never did, so after each use we had to open the tank ourselves and push down a stuck plastic piece to get it to fill again. :D It's sad, because I'm sure these beautiful historic houses were once very nice and fancy. The new owners seem not to know how to maintain or renovate them properly.

The manager was really resourceful, and the food was amazing. I also loved how quiet and peaceful the place felt. I'd recommend it 100/100.

Service was good, and the drinks and food were affordable. The crowd was mature and laid-back, the rooms look 🔥🔥🔥, and there's a nice pool beside the pool bar. Had a good time here.
