KAP Guest House

I ended up trying KAPS Guest House after the nearby place where I’d stayed before was full. I was worn out from travel and other activities, got shown to my room on the fourth floor, and fell asleep almost straight away. There’s no lift, so reaching an upstairs room means taking the stairs. The room had a clean, comfortable bed, a desk and chairs, a TV, and a wardrobe. Breakfast is part of the stay and served in the restaurant on the sixth floor. Since I was just one floor below, that worked well for me. I’d give the breakfast four out of five. I’ve had bed and breakfast at several hotels, so I think there’s still some room to improve it. I didn’t use the WiFi, so I can’t comment on how well it works. The password is posted on the walls outside the rooms. I also saw several families staying there, and twin-bed rooms make it seem suitable for them. Kudos to the management for the clean rooms and comfortable beds.

My regular stop when I come to Nairobi. It’s safe and clean, with hot water, WiFi, breakfast, and good rooms. Prices start at 1600, a bargain.

I’d call this low-budget accommodation, and not even worth one star. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give it. There are three room types. A self-contained short-stay room costs US$10 (Kshs1,000), with check-in from 3 p.m. and checkout by 6 p.m. the same day. The single room is small, with a small single bed, and costs US$15 (Kshs1,500); check-in is from 12 p.m. and checkout by 10 a.m. the next day. The reasonably sized double room has one large bed and costs US$20 (Kshs2,000), with the same 12 p.m. check-in and 10 a.m. checkout. All are self-contained. The listing says check-in starts at 2 PM and ends at 6 PM, with a minimum age of 18. Checkout is 10 AM. There’s no after-hours reception, so late arrivals can’t check in until the following morning. Extra-person fees may apply depending on the property’s policy. At check-in, guests need government-issued photo ID and a credit card, debit card, or cash deposit for incidental charges. Special requests depend on availability, may cost extra, and aren’t guaranteed. Children are welcome, but there are no rollaway beds or cribs, and pets aren’t allowed. Payment is accepted by cash, MPesa, or debit or credit card. There’s no onsite parking. The property lists free WiFi in every room and in some public areas, daily free breakfast from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM, one restaurant, room service, luggage storage, a front desk, and daily housekeeping. It has no concierge. The listing mentions accessible bathrooms and in-room accessibility, but also says it isn’t disability friendly. Accessibility requests should be noted when booking.
