Nairobi Serena Hotel

The pool is great, the lounge is nice, and the rooms are beautiful and so photogenic that my socials were full of Serena Hotel pictures 😅. The food was good, especially the juices, which you must try. I’d highly recommend this place and put it in my S tier. A benchmark for other hotels. Good work.

The location made it easy to walk to the Maasai Market during the day, and there are several restaurants nearby. I also enjoyed a meal at the hotel bar restaurant. Breakfast had an excellent range, and the minibar was restocked daily, which I appreciated. Service was consistently kind and professional, from security and reception through to the concierge and wait staff. A comfortable stay with great hospitality at Serena Nairobi Hotel.

The food was exceptional and easily one of the best parts of our stay. The room was very nice, the pool area pleasant, and the facilities were probably the most luxurious of the places we stayed. Still, this was the first and most expensive hotel of our trip, and the one where we felt least comfortable. We arrived around two hours before check-in and paid 100 USD for early access. We understood that breakfast might be included, so agreed, but were then charged separately for it. That was unclear and disappointing. The staff were extremely attentive, sometimes to a degree that felt uncomfortable. Five different people asked us about dinner within roughly an hour. On several other occasions, staff asked how long we’d be staying and strongly encouraged us to come back after our safari. They seemed well intentioned, but all the questions and pressure felt unnatural and left us uneasy.

I had a wedding booked a month ahead, but they moved my event to the garden after taking a later booking. Because it was a UN booking, they chose to give them priority. Then they refused to cover the tent flooring and extra lighting needed for the garden setup. They should have handled this better. Please think twice before choosing Serena for an event. They’re loyal to money.
