The only thing I liked was the excellent Wi-Fi connection. My room smelled of toilet waste, and although I told my host, he said he’d bring air freshener and never showed up. Breakfast wasn’t included with the booking, and I didn’t enjoy staying here.

The rooms were clean and the staff were really friendly, but the menu was a letdown because so many items weren’t available. Noise continued past 1 a.m., which isn’t acceptable when guests need to sleep. Breakfast also needs more cereals and a wider choice of fruit.

The only clean thing was the bed linen. My room was awful, and it was noisy too. The receptionist also tried to back out of the reservation deal we’d agreed on. This felt more like somewhere for a quickie with a “professional” than a place to have a decent, relaxing night.

For the price and the location in Nairobi, I thought the hotel was great, with a lot included and some nice extras. The staff were extremely friendly, and the hospitality we experienced at the Strand Hotel felt heartfelt. If you’re expecting more than genuine, warm service, you might want to book a hotel costing 1500USD per person per night.

Tucked into west Nairobi, just before nrb west hospital, this is a cosy hotel with fair prices and great service. A nice change from the places around birongo square, since hawkers aren’t allowed in.
