West Lerruat Hotel

The room was nice and clean, and the beds were comfortable during our three-night stay with my cousin. But the cleaning staff came around 7:30, didn't knock, and just opened the door to peek inside. That's not okay.

It can seem cramped among all the high-rise apartments, but inside it feels cosy. The food and drinks were great, and there are good views of Langata Road, Nairobi West and Mafaraka-Upper Hill environs.

Everything else was superb, and I've been there twice, but the egg charge ended it for me. I asked for one fried egg and was charged Kshs 250, with a not-so-fresh tomato. At that rate, a tray would come to a whopping Kshs 7,500. That's pure theft, and they should be ashamed. The manager lady didn't want to hear any complaints and said the prices were fixed. A tray of eggs costing about USD 50?

Awful. I'd give it less than one star if I could. The reviews seem to be coming only from local guides, so make of that what you will. We arrived late at the hotel and found they'd taken our money but given the room to someone else because we hadn't arrived on time. We'd made it clear the room was paid for and that our arrival time didn't matter. They kept us waiting three hours without a room, then refused to refund us. Getting our money back was a huge battle, and it literally ruined the holiday. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, in a rough area, so it might be okay if you're from the country, but otherwise please don't book here. It's a basic two-star place.
