Alex “the great” was our guide and game driver, and he earned that name. He knew so much, answered every question we had, and made the drives a lot of fun. We learned about Samburu, its wildlife and its people in a way no book or website could give us. Elephant Bedroom Camp was one of our most memorable trips. It’s small and never felt crowded, which we loved. The tents were spotless and beautifully arranged, with a private dipping pool each and enough space between them for “Obama” the neighborhood elephant to wander through. There were gorgeous birds and fascinating sounds all around. The camp’s “lodge” impala sometimes walked with the groundskeeper as we went to and from our room. The staff were happy, courteous, and clearly focused on making the stay as good as possible. The food and service were top notch. The open sided trucks were much more comfortable than the ones we’ve used elsewhere, where people have to stand up and look through a roof opening. We also appreciated not having to queue in our truck each morning to buy reserve entry tickets, as happens in other areas. Before booking, we compared dozens of Samburu lodges for location, rooms, price, food, activities, WiFi, airport distance, and access to medical care. This one came out on top. We’d have asked to build a tent here and return every weekend if we didn’t live so far away. It’s almost tempting to give the place a bad rating so there’ll be a vacancy next time. Just go!

A special spot right on the river, where elephants can come right up against your tent. Watching wildlife from the private pool attached to our tent was incredible. The food was fantastic, and breakfast and lunch were served by the river. If you want a close up stay surrounded by animals, give this place a try.

We spent our honeymoon at Elephant Bedroom, and the camp was idyllic, surrounded by the natural beauty of the national park. Every tent looks over the river. We could sit on our porch or relax in the plunge pool for hours, watching the occasional zebra, elephant, or antelope wander past on the other bank. The colourful birds kept us company at every meal, and we fell for Tamu the resident impala and all the elephants moving around nearby. A big thank you to William, our attentive waiter, and Julius, our safari guide, who showed us several prides of lions and even a baby leopard (!!). Paul, Janet, Elizabeth, Raphael, Stella, and the whole team took such good care of us during our short visit. I’d highly recommend it for a special, one of a kind stay in Samburu.

What an amazing visit. The stay was even better than I expected, and the whole team made us comfortable while accommodating my special dietary requirements. Elizabeth, Gabriel, and Josphat deserve a special thank you. The room attendants kept our rooms clean and free of bugs, and the Askaris looked after our safety day and night. I’d gladly recommend the lodge and return.

James, our guide, is passionate about his home in Samburu, and was knowledgeable and a lot of fun. William was a brilliant waiter, too. They both made the stay extra special, and we’ll definitely be back.
