The restaurant was a real highlight. Every meal came as at least three courses from an à la carte menu, which was a welcome change from the buffets at many other lodges. The dishes looked impressive, and I especially remember the sauces. Staff were warm and attentive, though knowing the menu and wine list a little better would have made things even better. Samburu Intrepids was my favorite of the three safari campsites we stayed at in Kenya. It had that special feeling of being right in nature while still being comfortable. Hot water and electricity weren’t on around the clock, but they were reliably available outside game drive hours, so it never caused us a problem. The tents were just the right size, thoughtfully laid out, and had window openings we could easily open or close from inside. I’d happily stay here again.

We got wonderful service the whole time. The staff kept going out of their way to make our stay special. Steve gave a couple of great cultural talks before dinner, which I highly recommend, and also helped us promptly when we needed assistance in our tent. Gideon looked after us so kindly, and the food was stellar, with three hot meals a day and sensible portions. Hussein was a steady security guard at night, which gave us peace of mind. There’s an electric fence around camp to protect against large wild animals, though we still saw monkeys, lizards, owls, bats, and plenty of other small animals inside. At night, you have to go with a security guard to see the stars. There’s no light pollution, so on a clear night the whole sky is full of them.

The lodge is lovely, leafy, and a cool place to escape the afternoon heat. Food was prepared with care, and everyone on staff was so attentive. Cleo looked after us throughout our stay. A wonderful experience, and I’d recommend staying here in Samburu.

The tents have a charming look that really gives you that safari feeling, and a nice extra was the complimentary morning wake-up with coffee or tea brought to our tent. The shared areas were roomy but still felt intimate. Shillah, our lovely waitress, and steward Nuno put in a lot of extra effort for us. The whole team gave personal, excellent service, and the food was nicely prepared and presented, with plenty of different options. The one thing that bothered me a little was how close the tents were to each other. I’d have preferred a bit more privacy, though it didn’t spoil our stay. This is a very good base for adventures in Samburu.

The biggest letdown was having to pay extra for bottled drinking water. At a remote camp with these prices, I think drinking water should be included as a basic necessity. Guests should know about this policy before booking. Even so, I had a memorable safari stay in a beautiful, peaceful spot along the Ewaso Nyiro River. The scenery was stunning. The staff were wonderful, friendly, professional, and always ready to help. My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the food was consistently very good. Samburu Intrepids has a lot going for it, but the water policy affected my experience.
