The room itself was okay, and the staff were genuinely warm, but the price didn’t feel justified. Banana House has plenty of character and a cute rustic look, yet nearby, cheaper hotels seemed more comfortable and polished for what they charged. The practical details were frustrating. We had to leave our shoes at the entrance, but the foot-washing stations were awkwardly placed, away from covered spots. In the rain we tracked dirt back inside anyway. The old locks were another issue. Carrying a padlock around was a hassle, and being able to lock someone inside a room seems like a serious fire safety concern. My friend accidentally locked me in early one morning. I was cold at night because the bed had sheets but no blankets. There was no drinking water provided either, which felt odd at this rate. I also wished they had umbrellas for guests. We paid over $150 a night, so I expected at least a bottle of water and an umbrella. The shared spaces weren’t kept up well. Breakfast and lunch dishes could sit for hours, especially by the pool, with flies gathering around them. That made the small pool area unpleasant, and the rain and uncleared food left us with few comfortable places to sit, relax, or read. We had a table outside our room, which worked for breakfast, but wasn’t ideal in the evening or when it rained. We could hear staff from our room early in the morning, too. I wanted to like Banana House, and it does have charm, but the stay didn’t match the cost. It felt more centered on rustic wellness style than on comfort, practicality, or value.
