The pool was a real plus, clean, spacious, and suitable for kids, and the bathroom had plenty of room and a hot shower. My friend and I came to Shela in December looking for somewhere affordable during the festive season. The rooms are basic and have fans only, so they won't suit you if you need air conditioning. This place works well if you'll be out most of the day and just need a bed. Breakfast was okay, and they were willing to make what you needed. The staff were very welcoming. It's a short walk to the ocean. You need to be collected to reach the hotel, since transport in Shela is by donkey or on foot from the jetty. I'd suggest walking. For friends travelling on a budget, I'd recommend it, as long as you keep your expectations in check, as with most places in Lamu.

We had a terrible stay and got no compensation for it. The bed, sheets, and towels were covered in red fire ants, and they seemed to be all over the hotel. When we complained, no one helped. The owner was loud and arrogant, and refused to move us to another room. A waste of our money, time, peace, and health.

After a day running around Lamu town, the pool was just right for a swim. I also loved having breakfast on the balconies and looking up at the Milky Way from the rooftop at night. It's a calm, quaint hotel near the beach and restaurants, and we found the prices and facilities good. Benson gave us awesome service. The one thing I wished for was a boat shuttle to and from Lamu town. Getting around can be difficult because boats from Shela don't necessarily run all the time. I'd definitely recommend it.

I've stayed here twice, in 2021 and 2023, and found it worthwhile. Hamid provided great service and I felt I got good value for my money. The hotel is just behind Peponi Hotel, Shela Lamu. They also own Shela White House, another lovely, affordable townhouse. 100%.

There aren't any CCTV cameras, which left me unsure about safety. I left my phone in room 5A charging while I went for breakfast, and it was gone when I returned. I received no compensation.
