The location by the bay is unique and scenic, and the hotel staff were polite and friendly, apart from management and reception. The rooms were a disaster. Their AC units are ancient and barely cool, bathroom tap and shower water smelled like sewage, replacement rooms were dirty, and management was lax and completely unreceptive to feedback. Meal choices were limited too, especially for vegetarians. My family booked two nights and three days at AHG Lion Beach for what was supposed to be a relaxing beachside weekend. We were given an ocean-facing room, but it was extremely hot as soon as we walked in and the AC wasn’t cooling. I thought the heat might ease after sunset because the room faced the setting sun, so we went ahead with our plans. It was still unbearable when we got back after dark. I called reception, and a technician came and immediately suggested a room change. Nothing happened until I returned and asked for the move myself. No other sea-facing rooms were available, so we were split into two indoor-facing rooms. The rooms hadn’t been cleaned, the AC hadn’t been turned on, and nobody checked that things worked before transferring us. I had to speak to reception again after dinner, for the third time. We lost several precious evening hours that I would rather have spent with my family. The new rooms had the same problems. One stayed extremely hot because its AC barely worked. The units seemed so outdated that they might need to run for a full day before cooling a room properly. The other room had better AC but was very dirty and dusty, clearly not cleaned before we were moved in. Its bathroom door wouldn’t close, and water from the taps and shower smelled like sewage. I saw other reviews mention the same issue. Since the AC in the first room still wasn’t working properly, we all squeezed into the smaller room. With extra beds added, it felt like a cramped backpackers’ hostel, not a supposed 4-star resort. The mess took up the whole evening, and it was close to midnight before we were all crammed into one room. The meal choices at AHG are quite limited compared with other nearby resorts, so vegetarians should keep that in mind. The unique bay and friendly staff, excluding the general manager and reception staff, were the only real saving graces. The next morning, the general manager met with me and offered generic, useless explanations. Even getting a sincere apology felt like pulling teeth. Based on other reviews, I’m sure the manager will reply with baseless justifications, but that doesn’t matter. To the GM, you ruined our weekend. Use the feedback to reflect and make the improvements this place clearly needs instead of spending time on a response I don’t care about. I won’t recommend the place to anyone again. Thanks, Ricardo. Between the barely cooling AC, sewage-smelling water, dirty replacement room, unresponsive management, and limited food, it wasn’t worth it.
