Tunduk hostel

We felt at home right away. The atmosphere was warm, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The owner was the best part of our stay: she helped us organize our Kyrgyzstan trip with advice on itineraries, transportation, and hidden gems. We could keep in touch with her while traveling, and she was always kind, responsive, and incredibly helpful. We couldn't have planned this adventure without her. Highly recommended!

The showers are the biggest problem here. The water pressure is so weak you can barely wash yourself, and there's almost no ventilation. One shower has a small toilet-style fan that's basically useless and doesn't clear the moisture. You come out feeling dirty again, while the damp spreads through the house and toilets. Some walls are already falling apart from the moisture. That's unacceptable for a hospitality business, especially when proper fans and fixing the pressure shouldn't cost that much. This morning there was no hot water, which finally made me write this review. PS: The hot water problem was temporary, but the water pressure was poor every single day of our stay, so it wasn't a maintenance issue. Try it yourself. It's the lowest pressure I've seen in any hotel in the past year. Thanks.

Having a place to leave our main bags made the cycling trip much easier. We checked in, went to the nearby rental shop, picked up bikes for the long ride to Son Kul, and got useful route advice. After the trip, returning the bikes was just as simple. The shop is only a couple of minutes away, which made this hostel a great base for setting off around Kyrgyzstan. It was clean and cozy, with a well-equipped kitchen where we could prepare food for the road. The staff were friendly and ready to help. I’d recommend it especially to people traveling by bike.

The reception guy was pleasant and gave us lots of information about supermarkets and restaurants. The place itself looks nice and is fairly clean, but those were the only real positives for us. The shower setup needs attention. Water pressure was maybe 30-40% of what it should be, so washing, especially my hair, was difficult. The cheap shower handles made an already weak shower feel worse. There was nowhere to put toiletries, so setting down one bottle meant everything else fell onto the floor. For a busy hostel, it seems like normal shower fixtures would be a reasonable improvement. We were staying before an overnight flight to Europe after coming from Karakol, and the night was rough. After 23:00, while we were trying to sleep, a strong cooked-meat smell spread through our room and the whole hostel. I’m vegetarian, so I found it unbearable. I didn’t see who was cooking or where, though it may have been the hosts. No windows were open to air the place out, so we opened ours and had to deal with the cold. We slept badly before the flight. In the morning, the kitchen water was cold because someone had unplugged the water heater. We didn’t have time to heat it on the gas, and there was no electric kettle or microwave. I can recommend the helpful receptionist, but that’s about it.
