Kampot Guesthouse

We stayed for two nights. The beds were OK, and it's close to town, but the pool wasn't very clean. We tried four rooms in all and none had a fridge. The air conditioners in three of them weren't working well and needed to be regassed. We moved to another guess house for our last night and enjoyed it more.

The bed was really comfortable, and I could rent a bike directly from the hotel for $5 a day. The pool was a little dirty, but nowhere near as bad as older reviews made it sound. I think they've made more effort to keep it clean recently. The pool and garden area were very relaxing.

The staff were friendly, and the location is great if you want to be near town, just a few minutes' walk from the centre. There's lots of nice communal space, and the magic sponge is only a few metres down the road, which is great for breakfasts. I stayed a couple of nights hoping to relax by the pool, since a decent-sized pool in Kampot centre is rare. But it seems to be open to the public and was always full of noisy kids. I ended up paying extra for a place with a pool that I couldn't really use the way I'd planned. A few other reviews mention the same thing, so I wasn't the first. That's the deal breaker for me, and I wouldn't stay again. The rooms are very dated too. I was given an upstairs room, and the downstairs room they first showed me looked even grimmer. I left feeling a little had-over.

The lady there was very kind. It's close to the center, and I liked the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful pool, and nice terasse on the 1st floor. There's also a big common kitchen to cool and make some food. I can recommend the place and would stay again.
