The room was clean, and both the air conditioning and Wi-Fi worked well. The staff were kind, and the CCTV made the place feel safe. Still, for a budget hotel, some basic repairs are overdue: the toilet seat needs securing, the curtains need to be hung properly, and the rooms could use fresh paint. The door frame had been patched so many times there was hardly any wood left to hold the lock. I stayed for two days in January 2026.

I booked a room at Neakru Guesthouse through Booking.com two days ahead during my May holiday, and the booking was confirmed with payment taken. Before arriving, I called the owner to make sure everything was set. He told me there was no room for me, then said he had cancelled my booking on May 13, the day before I was meant to check in, without telling me. I had no idea it had been cancelled, and Booking.com still showed it as confirmed when I checked, which left me confused and stressed when I arrived. I asked him to refund me straight away. Since then, he has not responded to my attempts to reach him or given me any proof of a refund. This was an appalling, frustrating experience, with no accountability or clear communication. A confirmed booking should offer some peace of mind, not leave a guest stranded and out of pocket. I would strongly advise other travelers who value reliability to avoid Neakru Guesthouse. Booking.com, I hope you investigate this thoroughly.

The place is a short walk from most of town, even though it sits a little outside the center. It's a bit of a hidden gem, with a comfortable stay and better amenities than I'd expect for the price. Just don't pay five-star rates for it. At a good price, it's a great guesthouse.

Friendly service and a very nice place. The riverside and town are only a short walk away.

Getting in and out is easy at any hour, and the room is fine for somewhere to stay. I wouldn't pick this guesthouse if I wanted to relax by the river and enjoy the view. There are riverside bungalows built and decorated for that kind of tourist stay.
