Bougainvillea Resort

It feels quiet and tucked away, though the main parts of Kep are still close and easy to reach by tuk tuk. The pool is amazing, and the rooms and showers were great. Everything was clean, the mattresses were really comfortable, and we slept well. Great service, good facilities, and good prices.

The stay was pleasant in some ways, but several problems got in the way. The hotel is lovely and new, with a lot of potential, but the owner seemed inexperienced at running it. Breakfast was a struggle because the staff didn’t seem sure what to do. The restaurant never opened for lunch or dinner, so we had to get a ride into town for food. The Wi-Fi was patchy and only seemed to work near the bar, which was often unattended. Cambodia may have Wi-Fi issues, but then it shouldn’t be advertised. Our room TV had no cable, and a manager said it was broken. When room cleaning happened, it wasn’t done effectively. The owner seemed to take pride in carrying the burden and doing things himself. Hopefully the new management couple can sort things out.

We came for dinner and Markus kindly shared some Swiss Raclette cheese with us, an unforgettable treat. We ate on the spacious open-air terrace, where smoking is allowed, among lots of Mango trees. We didn’t stay overnight, but Markus, a Swiss expat from Basel, gave us a tour of the rooms. The Swiss quality and attention to detail were impressive, a rare standard to see in Cambodia. This new resort has just eight individual bungalows, so it seems well suited to peace and relaxation. I have no doubt it belongs among Kep’s top 5 resorts.

A quiet spot just up the road from "downtown" Kep. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, and there’s a beautiful pool and a pleasant open patio.
