Paddy's Bamboo Guesthouse

Paddy is a peaceful man, and you can learn from him. There are lots of plants, and the place itself is calm, with comfortable beds. But after 9:30 at night there’s no light, and there are loads of bugs and mosquitoes. The water is cold. I moved after the second night because I wanted somewhere more comfortable, where I could charge my phone at night and not worry about bugs. For its price and category, it’s okay.

Paddy and his team made this feel like a home away from home between our activities. The guesthouse was comfortable, fun, well located, and cheap, and the food was amazing and great value. Paddy even let us leave our big bags in a locked room while we were away. He’s a truly nice person with charitable values, speaks perfect English, and handled every issue with a resourceful, positive attitude. I’d love to return to Koh Kong and stay again when I’m back in Cambodia next April with my wife. We were a group of 18, and this was the best place we stayed in Cambodia. On a four-day trek, Paddy’s team looked after us so well. They made outstanding food in the middle of the jungle and set up a comfortable camp wherever we stopped. No job was too much for them. We also spent four days working on a school project in Koh Por fishing village. We slept in hammocks at the temple and were cared for just as well. The villagers were incredibly kind and welcoming. One of my group lost her passport and money, and a local child returned everything intact. That was amazing in a community with so little, and it made us feel safe and welcome.

There’s a lot of potential here, but lately it seems the owners may not be giving the place much attention, perhaps because it’s the off season. It took a while to find someone to take our food order, and the food was average. The room was reasonably clean. Next time, I’d skip this town altogether.

There are different room prices, and they have a dorm too. I liked the hippy style throughout, from the ground floor to the rooms. Inside, it has the feel of a beach bungalow, and they’ve pulled that mood off pretty well.
