Sleeping Trees

This review is only about Sleeping Trees restaurant, not its accommodation. The open-fire BBQ evenings, which rotate with the wood-fired pizza nights, are well worth trying. Their crepes, both sweet and savory, are excellent too. The owner is French and clearly takes crepes seriously. He also cares about the wine and has excellent Chilean bottles at fair prices, so a glass or a whole bottle makes a nice addition to a meal. Unlike the other businesses along Sunset Beach, they accept card payments even if you’re not staying overnight. Recommended.

Be ready for a fairly wild stay: WiFi is limited, there’s little or no phone signal, and there are plenty of mosquitoes and wildlife. Bring cash. There are lots of fish to see snorkeling, and they lend snorkels for free from behind the bar. The beach is stunning, the staff are very helpful, and the food is great. There are hammocks and deckchairs everywhere for relaxing. It’s hard to find a beach more beautiful than this. If you’re walking from Eden pier, be aware that rough waves can mean the ferry drops you at another pier on Saracen bay, a long way from where the walk starts. From there, a quad bike can take you across the island and leave you at the top of the hill above sunset beach. The path down is steep but short, and we managed it with big backpacks. For the return trip, staff can call the ferry companies to find out which pier to use and call the quad bike driver to pick you up on the hill at your preferred time.

We could relax completely here, away from noise, and enjoy our holiday and the crepes. Fred was especially welcoming and kindly answered all our questions. ✨✨ Justine and Coralie, Tent number 9.

A beautiful place to stay and unwind. The food is amazing. It’s the perfect spot to step away from the pace of everyday life.
