Sunny Bungalow

Sunny bungalow is right by the pier where the boats stop, just a couple of steps from the sea. The restaurant, bar, and reception are all on the beach. I was unexpectedly upgraded when I arrived, which made my day, and the staff were friendly. There’s a nice restaurant next door serving pizza, local, and Turkish food, while the neighbor on the other side has a restaurant with shows. A wonderful place to stay and enjoy Paradise.

There are some nice restaurants nearby, and the location is handy for the pier, with boats to other islands or beaches when the weather allows. The room is also on the way to Sunset and Laze Beach, and the staff were friendly. Still, the rate we booked felt a bit high given that the Wi-Fi didn’t work at all. As stated, there was no service for the first three days, and we also had trouble with the water pressure and hot water after 17:00. Communication could have been better.

I didn’t know what to expect from the food, but the lunch sandwiches were huge and tasty, and the Khmer dishes at dinner were delicious. The bar fellow was friendly and chatty, and poured good beer at a good price. The guys running the place were super friendly and helpful. For a low price by island standards, this was a great stay. The bungalows are basic, the classic sort, with no aircon, but there’s a fan and mosquito net over the bed. They asked every two days if we wanted the room cleaned and sheets changed, so that was fine. It’s right by Eden Pier, with hardly any walk after getting off the boat.

Getting there turned out easier than I expected. I’d bought my ferry ticket before booking and didn’t realize Island Speed Ferry is the only one that doesn’t stop at Eden Pier, next door to the bungalows. Sunnys sent a little speedboat to pick me up from Paradise Pier, so I avoided a 30-minute beach walk with my bags, and they took me back there when I left. I stayed a week in a rustic garden bungalow and loved it. It was peaceful and surprisingly quiet, a one-minute walk to the sea, with loungers overlooking the water. Sunset Beach is along the path right behind the bungalows. It’s far enough from the hostels and restaurants in the middle of the bay, but still only a short walk to reach them. The bed was comfortable, the mosquito net worked perfectly, and the bathroom was spacious and clean. The information in each bungalow about the island and restaurants was helpful, and the owner was super friendly and able to help with lots of things. I highly recommend staying here, great value for money.
