Tree House Bungalows Resort

The pizzas here are amazing. We’d been eating Asian food for a month, so having proper pizza from a pizza oven was lovely. Overall, though, we found island food a bit dodgy. After three bad meat meals at beach restaurants, we ate vegetarian for the rest of our stay. We paid $55 per night at the treehouse resort. That can sound expensive, but some island hostels were $40 per bed, or $80 for two people, so it felt reasonable compared with nearby accommodation. Koh Rong has a lot of questionable, rather expensive places by Cambodian standards, many loud and dirty, and generally in need of renovation. We first tried a hotel on one of the main beaches and couldn’t get on with it. We’d walked past the treehouse resort and liked the location, pool, and private beach. It sits between two popular beaches, far enough from either side’s nightlife that there wasn’t much noise, with a five to ten minute walk to each. After moving, the friendly staff found us a room at the last minute, one of the tall treehouses right on the beach. The views were incredible, and we could hear the waves day and night. The only real downside is that the rooms need renovation. They’re wooden huts in the trees among the animals, and some of the wood is starting to rot. There are lots of ways for bugs and animals to get in. We had nine large geckos at one point, but they’re harmless and eat mosquitoes. Monkeys once stopped us from leaving the room, which was actually fun, since we were in their trees. A mouse got into our bags at night because we’d left food inside, so don’t take food to the rooms. It was surprisingly friendly and clean-looking; we called him marble, opened the door, and he walked out. After that we kept our things hung up. We had a mosquito net in the room. If you expect a four or five star resort with perfect rooms, choose a different island. That doesn’t exist here. I’d recommend this place if you keep your expectations in check and don’t mind sleeping near small animals. Rooms: 3 stars. Location: 5 stars. Service: 5 stars. Food: 4 stars, amazing pizza, though some other meals may be a little overpriced.

The room itself felt badly outdated, with almost no furniture: no shelves, wardrobe, or minibar. After spending a hot day out, even having cold drinking water in the room would have helped. The beach below the treehouse was covered in rubbish, apparently left behind after evening parties by staff or villagers. I had to raise it with the manager, which made me wonder whether the beach is checked and cleaned regularly. Our nights were miserable too. For all three nights, we heard constant chewing inside the wooden wall, and there was a rat in the room. We also left a window open and a monkey came in, took my medicine box, and made a mess. That left us with serious safety and hygiene concerns. We decided we wouldn't come back.

A really laid-back spot, and the bungalows are comfortable. I had an amazing massage every day. Food and drinks at the restaurant cost a bit more than elsewhere, with some mixed fruit portions priced two to three times higher.

We arrived on 26/09/2025 after booking Treehouse Bungalows Koh Rong through Booking.com, and the first room had animal feces on the bed. Completely disgusting. After I complained, we were moved to an “upgraded” room, but the sheets there had visible stains too. The bathroom hose burst at 1:00 AM on the second night, flooding the bathroom and waking us up. The manager blamed us, called us liars, and was openly hostile and rude. On the third day we left early and skipped the final night because the conditions were intolerable. When I asked for a refund, he dismissed the request and told us to “get out,” even though we were already leaving. This was far below what I expected from a Booking.com property. The unsanitary rooms, serious maintenance problem, and manager's repeated hostility made the stay unbearable. I'm deeply disappointed Booking.com lists this place. I've requested a full refund and urge Booking.com to investigate so other travelers don't have the same experience. Avoid it at all costs! EDIT We barely drink and were never drunk on Koh Rong. It was your shitty property and the way you handled this that disturbed the other guests, not us. You yelled and blamed us for your toilet hose breaking. And it happened at 1am, not 1pm, at least get that right. I've never met such a scummy manager. You shouldn't work in customer service. You swore at my girlfriend and aggressively called her a liar. Absolutely disgusting person and terrible property.
