11 Happy Backpackers

The rooftop bar makes this a fun spot to meet other backpackers and hang out. The rooms are a different story, and there are much better places if you want a decent one. It’s still a reasonable choice, but it’s lost a lot of its charm and quality over the last two years. The rooftop is why I gave it four stars.

The rooftop bar is great, and a private room costs 10 USD a night. But the room was dirty, with no hot shower, toilet paper, or toiletries. At 11 Happy, the staff didn’t seem very happy. They’re young, probably poorly paid kids, so I can see why they might not care. On my first drink at the rooftop bar, the waitress asked me for a tip before she’d even brought it over. I wouldn’t stay here again.

There was nothing good about my stay. The bed definitely wasn’t fresh, and there was a cat in the room. There were no lockers or even room keys, the electricity kept cutting out, and the bathrooms were disgusting with no toilet paper. The staff didn’t care at all. If I could, I’d give this place no stars. Don’t even consider staying here.

The location is the only thing this place has going for it. We booked an air conditioned room, but the staff took us through four different rooms because the air conditioning didn’t work in any of them. We had to carry all our bags up and down the stairs, and the staff member was very rude and didn’t apologize. The room we finally got had the same problem. The rooms are basic, with a fan that sounds like a plane taking off when you’re trying to sleep. The hallways are covered in graffiti, doors are hanging off their hinges after being kicked in, and the bathrooms have mold, cockroaches, and leaks everywhere. The whole hotel felt sketchy and unsafe.
