Almond Hotel Sothearos

I love this chain. I stayed for a month, and the staff were so friendly and nice. The hotel is clean and feels safe, with a location very close to the city center. Breakfast was amazing too, an all-you-can-eat spread with lots of variety.

The staff were all polite and great, and the room was spacious and awesome. I booked one night through Agoda because the buffet menu looked good in the pictures and the description said breakfast was buffet style. But when my wife and I went down to eat, a staff member told me they no longer offered a buffet and would only provide limited food choices. The Agoda listing is misleading. I hope they update the information there right away.

The room, location, and breakfast were okay. I checked in late on the night of 13 March and checked out early on 15 March. After handing my key to the counter, I went outside and booked a tuk tuk on an app. Just as I was about to get in on the road, the counter attendant ran out calling, “sir, sir, you didn't pay your hotel bills.” I went back inside and felt like the staff were looking at me as if I were trying to cheat the hotel. Reception then accused me of not paying for laundry. I asked to see the receipt, and they showed me one dated 12 March for room 316. I explained that I had only checked in the night of the 13th, so it wasn't mine. I had to leave right away for a business meeting. They wasted my time, and luckily the tuk tuk was still waiting outside. Management, please retrain the staff and have them double-check before approaching a customer and saying they owe money when they're trying to leave.

It's in a good spot, and the hotel is comfortable, with friendly staff and service. Most staff can communicate well in English, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Most of the guests are Asian, which is usually a good sign. The rooms are fairly priced and comfortable, though not fancy. The water gets hot. There's only one lift, so sometimes you have to wait.
