Updated April 2026: On my fourth or fifth visit, I got a room overlooking the inner courtyard. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and I slept really well. I also had two massages before bed and was out almost as soon as my head hit the pillow. They’re affordable and high quality. Chinda was an amazing masseuse. The made-to-order breakfast is still delicious and piping hot. I recommend the chicken teriyaki bento. My room’s Wi-Fi was lightning fast, with no trouble on video calls or streaming, and the air-conditioning was strong and cold, much needed when it was 38 degrees Celsius in Phnom Penh. The reception team are friendly and speak English well. Lisim was especially kind and helpful, and went out of his way to thank me for coming back. That meant a lot to me. I’ve noticed very little staff turnover, and recognize most of the people from earlier stays. I take that as a good sign that they’re treated well, which isn’t always typical in hospitality. The management clearly runs the place well, and I’ll keep returning for work trips to Phnom Penh. Original review: Azumaya is on a quiet side street, close to the action in BKK1 and an 8-10 minute tuk-tuk ride from Riverside or Russian Market. The front desk staff were gracious and helpful, and my room was spotless with strong air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. Mr So spoke excellent English and was kind, polite, and extremely helpful. I had a professional, very relaxing massage for an inexpensive price, and would ask for masseuse "#3" again. Breakfast was plentiful, cooked to order, and better than at most Japanese restaurants. This isn’t the place for rooftop bar selfies, hipster style, or boutique touches. It’s quiet, clean, and extremely comfortable, with a world-class Japanese breakfast included. The minibar came with a beer, coke, and soda water, replenished daily, along with coffee and proper Japanese green tea. The value for the price is off the charts, and I’ll definitely return.

The Japanese-style breakfast is the best part for me. Whenever I travel in Southeast Asia, I look forward to having it at Azumaya. The staff are amazing, serve wonderfully, and speak Japanese well. I also enjoyed the reasonably priced massage and the masseuse’s technique. But the night was awful. Around midnight, there was a huge racket and what sounded like bombing noise from the sky bar at a neighboring hotel or condo. I couldn’t sleep and moved to a room on the opposite side. I hope the next night is quiet. Aside from that downside,

I went to the spa, not the hotel, and really didn’t like the massage. The salon’s massage bed wasn’t comfortable. I already had discomfort in my neck and back, and pain in one foot, but afterward I felt even more pain and discomfort. The masseuse was nice, though the massage felt unprofessional, as if they hadn’t been trained there. It didn’t feel Japanese at all. My back wasn’t properly massaged either, just my neck and legs.

They charge 50% for any late check-out after 12 noon.

This feels like a temporary home while I’m visiting Cambodia. The rooms are nice, with free drinks including beer, and they replenish them daily. I liked the rooftop bath, sauna, and massage. The massage is a little expensive, but I still had one once a week.
