The bathroom setup was awkward. There’s no divider, so you get wet just trying to use the toilet, though I could understand that at half the price. The room also felt quite industrial and not cozy enough for a five-star place. Maybe it was the decor or ceiling, the curtains that don't cover the edges, or the only table being taken up by complimentary products. Still, the rooms were clean, the price was good, and it beats similar places in the same range.

This worked well for remote work. It’s quiet and peaceful, with a clean, tidy place that’s well maintained, though it seems better suited to remote workers than social backpackers. The tourist and nightlife areas are a bit far away, which suited me. Getting around was easy and cheap with Grab, usually just $1-$2. I had a great stay at Emerald!

The room was spacious, really clean, and had a nice view. Everyone on staff was friendly and smiley, and the location was pretty good. I had a great stay. The curtains don't block much sun, and the street can get a little noisy, but it was fine. Future travelers, please stop smoking.

I was staying in a shared dorm, talking on the phone, when the man in the lower bunk climbed up and snatched it from me. I reported it to the front desk. The staff said they would speak to him and told me he was checking out that day. After waiting an hour in the lobby, I asked for a partial refund since nothing had been done and I planned to stay at another hotel. Only then did they offer to move me. I no longer cared about the refund. I was the person who'd been victimized, I didn't feel safe returning to the room, and the man stayed there without consequences or being removed. Update response 2, 2-26-2025: I wasn't speaking loudly. It seems you didn't interview the other two witnesses in the room and only accepted his account. The other guests never had a problem. If he wanted privacy and quiet, he should have booked an individual room instead of a dormitory. After my first conversation with the front desk, they did nothing. I waited an hour in the lobby, then, seeing no action, booked another hotel and decided to check out early for my safety. Only then did the staff offer me a different room. It was too late for that option. My safety had been compromised, and the customer service showed no empathy or took action at first. I did agree to use another room to clean up before checking out early. Your website says female guests can request an all-female dorm. That isn't an option, despite what you claim. A privileged man apparently thought it was okay to grab a woman's phone from her hands. Shame on the management. Update response 3, 2-26-2025: Your response makes it sound as though his action was okay. If he wanted quiet and tranquility, he should have checked into an individual room. The staff took no immediate action after I reported what happened. This was a form of assault, and no report was made to the police. The staff have poor protocols. The owner doesn't know the information given to guests. The webpage clearly says, "Female guests can also request for a Female-Only room." The hotel violated its stated "Commitment" and values of Ethics, Equality and Social Responsibility.
