Grand View Guesthouse

A quiet street and a nice atmosphere, with a good restaurant at reasonable prices. This is good value for the price, with basic accommodation like a typical economical Cambodian guesthouse. The employees were very friendly and accommodating. I think many of the bad reviews come from westerners expecting too much.

We booked this because we wanted somewhere cheap for one night, and regretted it. There were no towels, soap or shampoo in the room. When I asked at reception, the owner questioned whether there really were no towels, then said they don’t provide shampoo and went to get some towels. They were ragged, torn and full of holes, not something I’d use even to dry my wet dog. This place deserves less than one star. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

I stayed for a week, paying about $7 a night, and found it very good value. The rooms are standard sized, with an ensuite bathroom, and you can choose either a ceiling fan or AC. The service was great, and the people who own the hotel were kind. There are lots of Indian and Muslim restaurants nearby with delicious food. The one letdown was the area, which isn’t so good, especially for a woman travelling alone.

After a physical altercation with another member of the community, I was harassed and threatened through the night. It was the second time I’d been harassed at this guest house, and I no longer felt safe or able to enjoy a peaceful stay. I’d paid for 31 nights, but told the owner I was cancelling the remaining 17 because I feared for my safety. She immediately said I wouldn’t be reimbursed for those nights, even though I’d booked and paid for them. I find it shocking not to get that money back after my safety was put at risk.
