The staff try to help, the location is good, and the price is low. But it feels like the owner just wants to take the money without putting anything back into the place. I could overlook the old AC, dirty walls, and bedding that looked like it had been bought years ago. The cockroaches were too much, though. There were dozens under the bed, and I felt driven to sleep with the lights on.

We chose a cheaper room without a window, and it was quiet even though the place is central, with lots within easy walking distance. The owner was friendly and helpful without being pushy, which we appreciated. Our double room had an ensuite, air conditioning, towels, toiletries, and a hot shower. Good value for the location, and I’d happily recommend staying here.

Check-in was easy, the air con worked well, and the shower was fine. The room I was moved to had a window, but the view was only a tin roof with noisy cats, maybe chasing rats at night, and the neighboring building. I didn’t find the window useful or necessary. The place could have been cleaner.

We found bed bugs on the bed and floor just three hours after checking in. When we told the owner we were leaving, he became aggressive, grabbed me, and physically tried to stop us from going. He verbally attacked both me and my husband, then followed us on his scooter to our new hotel, harassed us, and splashed some liquid over us. In a year and a half of travel, we’ve never encountered a hotel owner this aggressive or frightening. There are hundreds of guest houses around the city, so stay away from this one.

We didn’t stay at the hotel because we already had a booking nearby, so I can’t comment on the rooms. It looked clean and well organized, though, and the location between the central market and the riverfront is very good. We used their visa extension service and found it very good: they kept us updated and were helpful. At $50 per person, it was also fair, since the five or six other places we asked quoted between $50 and $75.
