Naki Suites at Silvertown

Our room was clean but felt bare, with empty shelves and walls. A little art or decoration would give it some character. The location is reasonable if you’re okay paying $20 for a meal, since this is an upmarket part of Phnom Penh. Communication was difficult because staff spoke very little English, and we found even simple things hard to sort out. We were pressed for a $100 deposit, but nobody would exchange our pounds, so we had to use an ATM. At checkout, a staff member showed us a face towel with a spot of toothpaste on it and tried scrubbing it with acetone and a toothbrush, saying it couldn’t be removed. We were amazed. We explained that it was toothpaste and would wash out normally, but none of the staff seemed to understand, and they demanded $15 for a supposedly destroyed towel. I took it to our next hotel, CDX Residence, which cost half as much, and cleaned it easily under a hot tap. The toothpaste came right off. I returned to this hotel and got my money back. It felt like they were using the $100 deposit to pressure guests into paying for things that weren’t damaged. After we’d spent hundreds of dollars there, this was a terrible way to treat us. STAY WELL AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS.

We had a good stay and would think about coming back. The staff were wonderful, the location was superb, and the pool was close to top notch. Still, our suite had some shortcomings. The build quality didn’t feel up to the hotel’s stature, even though everything looked great. The so-called balcony was a small enclosed solarium, with two windows that opened quite wide. Wifi was unreliable across the suite and barely worked in the master bedroom. The main TV didn’t work when we arrived; someone came up to fix it, but it remained spotty.

Be wary of what felt like a trap at this hotel. We stayed overnight and were made to pay a fine for allegedly smoking in the room. They kept our deposit and refused to return it. We smoked on the balcony with both windows open for airflow, and we hadn’t seen any sign saying smoking was banned there. At check-in, the receptionist had told us the restriction was for the room, not the balcony. A warning to local and international travelers: think again before staying here.

We had a terrible experience. The reception accused us of taking a face towel and wanted $15, even though we took nothing. The cleaner couldn’t prove how many towels had been there either. I brought my own disposable face and shower towels, so it was crazy to be told we’d taken theirs. On top of that, the cleaner stole our AirPods. Find My showed them near the hotel. This place was awful.
